August 19, (THEWILL) — Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed the reason behind his two recent collapses, confirming that he has been diagnosed with brief, temporary and treatable absence seizures.
The 23-year-old suffered another worrying episode during Bayern’s friendly against Heidenheim on Tuesday, just four days after he had collapsed during a separate match against RB Leipzig.
Musiala came on as a substitute against Heidenheim but was only on the pitch for around eight minutes before falling to the ground.
The incident immediately raised concerns among teammates, Bayern’s medical staff and supporters, particularly because it followed a similar collapse during Saturday’s friendly against Leipzig.
However, Musiala has now moved to reassure fans about his condition and explain what has been happening.
Taking to Instagram, the Bayern star revealed that doctors have diagnosed him with a neurological dysfunction that causes brief absence seizures.
“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!” Musiala wrote.
He explained that the condition can cause the type of episodes witnessed during Bayern’s recent matches.
“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction,” he said.
“These can lead to the kind of incidents seen recently, such as during the match against Leipzig or the game in Heidenheim.”

Musiala Reassures Bayern Fans
The midfielder acknowledged that the incidents may appear frightening to people watching them unfold but insisted that he is receiving the appropriate medical treatment.
Musiala said he remains optimistic about his recovery and has the full support of Bayern Munich and his personal team.
“I know they might look alarming at first glance, but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life,” he said.
“I am receiving excellent medical care and remain very optimistic.”
The Germany international also delivered perhaps the most reassuring part of his statement, saying there is no further health risk associated with the condition.
He revealed that he has been in close contact with medical specialists and has received clearance from neurologists to continue playing football.
“Importantly, there is no further health risk involved,” Musiala said.
“In close consultation and regular contact with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge; with the medical clearance of the neurologists, I want to continue doing what helps my recovery most: simply living my life and pursuing my passion for playing football.”
His decision means Musiala intends to continue his football career while managing the condition under specialist supervision.
He added that he had taken full responsibility for the decision and remained positive about the road ahead.
