February 10, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan is set to sell goalkeeper, Andre Onana, to raise funds through the transfer market.
The Cameroonian shot-stopper, who joined Inter on a free transfer from Ajax at the end of the 2021/2022 season, has become a regular in Simone Inzaghi’s side after initially struggling to displace Samir Handanovic. The need to raise funds is a result of the financial challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, which has made it difficult for Inter to balance the books.
The potential sale of Onana has attracted interest from clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are all in the market for a new goalkeeper. The reported £50m transfer fee Inter is hoping to raise would go a long way in helping the club’s finances.
The sale of Milan Skriniar was initially seen as a way to reach this target, but with the defender heading to PSG on a free transfer, Onana could be the player sold instead. Inter has already held talks with Bournemouth’s goalkeeper, Neto, regarding a summer transfer in case Onana is sold.
Meanwhile, Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has been in London in recent days to discuss various players with English clubs. Denzel Dumfries, who was a winter target for Chelsea and Spurs, could still be sold, and discussions are believed to have taken place with the former over Romelu Lukaku’s loan situation.
