January 10, (THEWILL) – A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Garba Pwul has offered a new approach to counter insecurity in the State as the Traditional institution in the State has come under serious threats and attack by kidnappers and bandits in recent times.
Commenting on the degenerating security situation, Pwul said it is important to introduce some local content into public Police arrangements by at least posting a divisional police officer DPO, to an area he is familiar with, and which language and people he understands well.
Pwul said familiarity with the environment and the people enhance the chances of effective policing, especially when it comes to tracking crime and perpetrators of crime.
On the abduction of traditional rulers and threats to kidnap more, Pwul said it is important to fortify security around the traditional rulers.
He proposed that the Police, Civil Defence Corps, and other security operatives should be part of the security details around the traditional authorities for prompt deployment and response to security challenges.
Pwul, who is one the gubernatorial aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said recent security challenges in the State have forced a review of the security and defence contents of his manifesto, is also of the view that kidnapping, banditry, and insurgency have stretched and exposed the national security system so much that it is imperative and urgent to consider an overview and new strategies.
