BEVERLY HILLS, February 16, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, has revealed that the Commission has set up a panel has been set up to investigate the alleged issue of underage registration and voting in Kano State.
THEWILL recalls that the issue became publicised after pictures of underaged voters in Kano State were circulated on social media recently showing children participating in the local council elections conducted across Kano State last weekend which the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in a landslide.
Mahmoud made this known on Friday during a workshop in Lagos attended by leading senior members of staff of the commission at a retreat on the 2019 election project implementation.
The INEC boss said he believes that the Commission’s register is not compromised adding that he is also optimistic that the disagreement over the sequence of the elections will be resolved.
He stated that the investigative panel will start work next week adding that the findings of the panel will be made public as he assured Nigerians that the matter will be fully investigated.
