January 30, (THEWILL) – The Social Democratic Party Candidate for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency Election in Cross River State, Patrick Abam, has pledged to provide a people-oriented service to his constituents when elected.

He disclosed this in Calabar while speaking to THEWILL on the programmes and the interventions he intends to bring to bear when elected.

He stressed that his programmes for the constituency will focus on education, agriculture, health, infrastructure and security.

On education, he said the Constituency faces great challenges in terms of access to education and enabling facilities.

He promised a massive intervention in this area in a way that will ease access to education and also create the enabling environment, particularly at the basic level.

He promised to substantially increase school enrolment within two years in office by bridging challenges presently contributing in hindering access to education within Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency.

On agriculture, Abam said, “Most of the people in the area are agrarians and we promise to set up a rural – urban market at Ugep.

“This market will also be equipped with vehicles and tractors that will go to the farmlands and bring out the produce to the market.

“There will be sheds for garri, cassava, yam, fish, plantain and all sorts of crops produced within the environment.

“This is to permanently bridge the challenge of accessibility to markets and reduce post harvest losses to the barest minimum.

“This will also enable our hardworking farmers access a ready market for their harvests because we have people who come from Abakaliki, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Delta and Akwa Ibom to buy goods from our constituency.

“On health, all health facilities within the constituency will be properly equipped and provided with the basic medications.

“We hope to emplace a system where all pregnant women and people over 50 years will get free medical care across all health centres within the Constituency.

“On infrastructure, most of our roads are in a very bad shape and I will evolve a new system where a qualified engineer will be engaged that will supervise the construction of roads in the area through direct labour”, Abam said.

He also promised to work effectively and efficiently with all federal agencies to ensure that what is due to the constituency gets down to the people.

He reaffirmed the slogan of the party, which is that there should be social justice and this means people should have their rights at any time it is due for them.
