August 04, (THEWILL) – The Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Akwa Ibom State, yesterday, passed into law the 2021 local government budgetary estimates of N2, 25 billion.
The budget breakdown revealed that the sum of N1.77 billion will be spent as recurrent expenditure, while the sum of N486 million was allocated as capital expenditure.
The passage was coming days after the Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Hon Ekopimo Edet, presented the budget proposal to the Legislative coyuncil, at Oko Ita for legislative scrutiny and approval.
The budget, christened as “Budget of Actualisation and Transformation,” which, according to the Chairman, sought to implement transformative policies that will translate into a significant improvement in the lives of the people.
The implementation strategies, according to the Chairman, would also expand the revenue base of the council through an improved mechanism that would increase the internally generated revenue of the area.
He said: “The key areas of focus of the 2021 budget include, infrastructure development, provision of educational facilities that would enhance a conducive learning environment, support for students, youth empowerment and ensure peace and security,”
In his speech, the leader, Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Mr. Udeme Sunday, commended the Chairman for the budget proposal that he observed would assist in alleviating the plight of the people, if well implemented.
He assured that members of the legislative council would be alive to their responsibilities in ensuring a judicious and conscious implementation of the budget.
Accordingly, the budget was passed after a Motion was moved by the House Leader, Mr. Joseph Udoh, and seconded by the Deputy House Leader, Mr. Kufre Eyo.
