Former President and ex-Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Monday reiterated his decision to abstain from party politics when he hosted Kogi State Governor, Mr. Idris Wada, in his Abeokuta home.
Obasanjo, however, added that he would continue to identify with people who mean well and continue to contribute positively to the development of Nigeria.
“Everybody is welcome irrespective of his political leaning provided he or she believes in the nation Nigeria and has good intentions towards its development.
“Personality is more important than platform in the achievement of goals.
“We should understand that it is not the party that makes the individual but that it is the individual that makes the party. It is who you are that you bring into the party,” Obasanjo said, while commending Wada for winning the Leadership Award for his leadership qualities.
Wada later told journalists that Obasanjo was a detribalised Nigerian.
“I received an award in Lagos on Sunday as the Best Performing Governor in the country; and I just deemed it fit to come and visit the baba. I have learnt a lot of things from him’’, he said.
