August 07, (THEWILL) – In an effort to increase his chances of playing for the first team, Callum Hudson-Odoi has put in a transfer request to leave Chelsea.
The 21-year-old is well known as one of English football’s top emerging prospects, but under manager, Thomas Tuchel, he has struggled to secure consistent playing time and was left out of the Blues team that defeated Everton 1-0 on Saturday, in their opener to the new season.
There will not be a shortage of suitors for the Englishman, and Hudson-Odoi’s agents have been given clearance to move forward with a deal. Borussia Dortmund has been interested in signing the England international since last year and Bayern Munich has also been following the situation closely. Southampton have also inquired about a potential loan move.
This season, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, and Mason Mount were in the starting lineup for Chelsea at Goodison Park, giving them a wide range of options in the forward areas. Hakim Ziyech did not play, while Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Armando Broja, and Conor Gallagher all came off the bench.
The young player’s window for making a move is rapidly closing. On September 1, 2022, the summer transfer window—which opened on June 10—will be shut. Even if there are little discrepancies in schedule, the top five European leagues will all conclude their transfer businesses on the same day.
