October 12, (THEWILL) – Nigerian entrepreneurs planning to manufacture for overseas markets have until October 14, 2026, to apply for the Harambeans Africa Jobs Fund Prize, which offers one winner a $20,000 grant.

The opportunity covers African-born entrepreneurs and people of African descent. Early-stage businesses and founders who have not incorporated a company can apply.

“We’re looking for entrepreneurs, not PowerPoint presentations”, the organiser says in its published call.

Businesses That Fit The Call

Priority areas include apparel, furniture, agro-processing, consumer goods and industrial components. Businesses helping exporters overcome logistics, cold-storage and certification problems also feature.

A Nigerian clothing manufacturer, for example, could build an application around supplying overseas retailers. A food processor could explain how it would turn local produce into goods suitable for an identified export market. These are illustrative approaches, rather than assurances of selection.

For either business, a useful starting point would be evidence of a prospective buyer, realistic production costs and the requirements for delivering the product abroad. Those details would help explain how funding could lead to sales.

Beyond the grant, the programme describes potential pilot investment of up to $100,000 and subsequent scale-up financing of 100,000–1 million. Neither is guaranteed. The scale-up funding would take the form of debt or revenue-based financing.

Application Details and Costs to Check

Applicants should use the official application form and select Africa Jobs Fund Prize. The form is titled “Apply to Become a Harambean 2027” and recommends saving responses offline before submitting.

The Alliance’s general admissions guidance lists sections covering the venture, progress, essays, education, work experience and recommendations. It also requests two referees.

Applicants should pay attention to two differences between the general guidance and the prize announcement. General Alliance admission closes on October 31, but the prize-specific deadline is October 14. General eligibility also requires applicants to be university students or graduates, while the prize page does not explicitly state an education requirement. Anyone affected should seek clarification before assuming an exemption.

There are potential participation expenses, too. The general admissions FAQ says symposium participants cover their flights and a $500 registration fee. The prize announcement does not establish that its winner is exempt from those costs. These are symposium expenses, not a stated fee for submitting an application.

The prize page provides no closing hour or time zone. Applicants should therefore prepare their responses and submit ahead of October 14, rather than assume the portal will remain open until midnight Nigerian time.
