October 6, (THEWILL) – Eligible Nigerian researchers have until 5 pm WAT on Tuesday, October 6, to submit letters of intent for Simons Foundation grants supporting research into solar radiation management.

The programme investigates approaches to cooling the planet by altering its radiation balance, alongside their potential consequences. Standard awards offer up to $1.5 million over three years.

Who Qualifies

Simons encourages Global South applications. University lead investigators must hold tenured, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions in departments offering PhDs. Qualifying research institutions may also apply.

Applicants should check the full eligibility rules before preparing submissions. Social-science research and field experiments releasing aerosols fall outside this call.

Submit through the Simons Award Manager. Today’s deadline covers the initial letter, with invited full proposals due February 17, 2027.

Funding is scheduled to begin August 1, 2027. The portal closes at noon US Eastern time, equivalent to 5 pm in Nigeria, and late applications will not be accepted.
