November 04, (THEWILL) – Armed men on Thursday killed four mobile police officers at Oraifite community, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Oraifite community is about 46Kms away from the State capital, Awka.
The attack which occurred on Thursday morning, has heightened anxiety among security personnel on election duty and residents of the state.
THEWILL gathered that the assailants also carted away the dead officers’ weapons.
Efforts to confirm the exact number of casualties in the attack failed.
When contacted on phone, the Zone 13 Public Relations Officer, DSP Nkeiruka Nwude, who is in charge of election matters, declined comments, but directed all inquiries to the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.
However, Mba’s phone was switched off when contacted for confirmation on the attack.
However, a security source familiar with the incident, said no fewer than four policemen were gunned down in the attack, adding that both the dead and injured were taken to a nearby hospital in the area.
