Guler’s Real Madrid Debut Facing Further Delay After New Injury Setback

September 26, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid’s promising young midfielder, Arda Guler, has been struck by yet another injury blow, further delaying his long-awaited debut for the Spanish giants after joining from Fenerbahce over the summer.

The 18-year-old Turk is still waiting to make his first appearance for Madrid, who paid above his Fenerbahce release clause to bring him to Spain. He travelled to the United States for pre-season within days of signing but remained unused against AC Milan and Manchester United. A knee problem then saw Guler sent back to Madrid for treatment.

His recovery has proven frustrating, but Guler was finally in line to make his Madrid bow against Las Palmas this week. Boss Carlo Ancelotti even declared him fit, alongside returning stars, Vinicius Junior and Dani Carvajal. “He needs minutes and fitness to get used to our style, but he has extraordinary talent,” said Ancelotti on Tuesday afternoon.

Yet, shortly after the manager spoke, Madrid issued a statement confirming Guler had picked up a new thigh injury, ruling him out of the clash. It is not the same internal meniscus issue that has kept him out until now.

Guler last played on 19 June, scoring in Turkey’s 2-0 Euro 2024 qualifier win over Wales. His most recent club match was Fenerbahce’s Turkish Cup final victory against Istanbul Basaksehir over a week prior.
