Gov Yusuf Gives Cash Assistance To Family Of Deceased Journalist, Others

February 14, (THEWILL) – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has presented cash assistance to the family of a deceased Journalist and some Journalists facing health challenges in the state.

Yusuf, while presenting the cash assistance to the beneficiaries on Wednesday, described Journalists as key to societal development.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye, the Governor said the gesture was in recognition of the efforts of the journalists in ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state.

He said his administration would continue to partner with working journalists in the state to ensure that the general public is duly informed about government activities.

The Governor reaffirmed the determination of his administration to provide transparent leadership for the well-being of the people of the state.

Those who benefited from the gesture included Mr Ted Odogwu of The Punch Newspaper, who was a victim of a domestic gas explosion which occurred some months ago, and was awarded N1 million, as well as Yakubu Salisu of Blazon Newspaper, who sustained a spinal cord injury from a car accident and was awarded N500,000.

Others were Auwal Mukhtar of Abubakar Rimi Television who was also a victim of a car accident and was assisted with N500,000, and Bilkisu Ado Zango, a staff of Radio Kano, who was facing serious health challenges, and was supported with N500,000 by the government.

Similarly, the family of late Malam Abdullahi Yakubu, who was a correspondent of Leadership Newspapers, got N500,000 from the government.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, lauded Governor Yusuf for the assistance and urged working journalists in the state to reciprocate the gesture by being more committed and dedicated to their job.
