March 22, (THEWILL) – Liverpool may have a chance to sign Barcelona’s young midfield prodigy, Gavi, thanks to a peculiar situation with his contract.
The 18-year-old has been impressive for Barcelona this season, playing in almost every La Liga match as La Blaugrana pursues a first league title since 2019. Liverpool is reportedly interested in Gavi, and the fact that he has been unregistered from Barcelona’s squad for next season has given the English club some hope.
Barcelona had signed Gavi to a new contract last year, which included a release clause of €1 billion. However, La Liga refused to ratify the deal due to Barcelona’s ongoing financial difficulties. As a result, Gavi is still registered as an academy player and has not been signed as a professional player.
His contract includes a clause that allows him to leave on a free transfer if he is not registered as a first-team player by June 30. Liverpool is said to be exploring the option of signing Gavi, who has been likened to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, due to his style of play. The English club is reportedly in need of a midfielder and sees Gavi as a potential long-term solution.
With his contract situation still unresolved, it remains to be seen where the young Spaniard will end up next season.
