January 11, (THEWILL) – A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in charge of Financial System Stability (FSS), Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, has debunked reports that she has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The false claims of her arrest started circulating on Thursday, in some blogs and messaging groups, saying the DSS had taken her into custody over the alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris Bank, Titan Trust Bank and Union Bank.

Responding to THEWILL’s inquiry on Thursday, Mrs Ahmad, who spoke through her close associate, described reports of her purported arrest as “mischievous and totally untrue”.

“Please note that the story is false and it’s actually an old story that has since been debunked. The recent spread of this old false story is mischievous and totally lacks any merit. It is totally untrue,” the source, who insisted on remaining anonymous, told THEWILL.

Another source close to the former top CBN official told THEWILL she is presently abroad on holiday.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunnaya, did not respond to inquiries when THEWILL contacted him earlier on the matter.

However, in a tweet on Thursday night, the DSS wrote: “The DSS did not, in the last 48 hours, arrest any former or present official of the CBN.”
