March 12, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian national U-20 football team, the Flying Eagles, have been awarded the Fair Play award at the recently concluded TotalEnergies 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The team was presented with the accolade by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after securing the bronze medal at the tournament. This marks the second time that the Flying Eagles have won the Fair Play award, having previously claimed it during the group stage of the AFCON.
Meanwhile, Senegal finished as the champions, securing their first title by defeating Gambia 2-0 in the final. Senegal won all six matches in the tournament without conceding a single goal. They were awarded several individual awards, with goalkeeper, Landing Badji, named the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament and midfielder, Pape Demba Diop, receiving the Umbro Golden Boot award for being the leading scorer of the tournament with five goals.
Finally, Lamine Camara, who recently joined Metz FC, was named the Best Player. The CAF Technical Study Group of the tournament presented him with the Man of the Tournament award after Saturday’s final in Cairo.
Camara’s impressive performance in the tournament contributed to Senegal’s successful campaign, culminating in their first U-20 AFCON title.
