FIFPRO Assisting Super Falcons In Pay Dispute With NFF

August 08, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian women’s national soccer team, the Super Falcons, is in a dispute with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over unpaid wages and allowances dating back to 2021.

This was confirmed by global players’ union FIFPRO, who said they are assisting the players in the disagreement. Despite reaching the knockout stage of the recent Women’s World Cup, the Super Falcons have accused the NFF of failing to honour financial commitments.

In a statement on the subject, the Union said: “FIFPRO can confirm it is assisting players in a disagreement with the Nigeria Football Federation concerning bonus payments, camp allowances and expenses, some of which date back to 2021,” it said in a statement.

“During the World Cup, the players expressed the desire to remain focused on their performance without making public statements or facing other distractions. However, the Super Falcons believe that it is now time for the Nigeria Football Federation to honour their commitments and pay the outstanding amounts.”

As THEWILL previously reported, in the days leading up to the kickoff of the competition, head coach Randy Waldrum claimed he was owed seven months’ wages, while some players say they have gone unpaid for nearly 2 years. Forward Ifeoma Onumonu revealed the difficult training conditions that the team endured, with no gym access and players forced to share beds.

“The team is extremely frustrated that they have had to pursue the NFF for these payments before and during the tournament,” said FIFPRO, who will continue working with the players to ensure their contractual rights are met. The Super Falcons said they remained focused on performances during the World Cup before making their grievances public.
