Argentina defeated Egypt 3-2 to advance to the quarter-final World Cup.
October 20, (THEWILL) – FIFA has suspended Egypt coach Hossam Hassan for three matches following comments he made after the team’s World Cup round-of-16 defeat to Argentina.
Forward Mostafa Zico was also handed a 5-match ban following the team’s 3-2 defeat to Argentina at the 2026 World Cup.
Hassan claimed his side was “cheated” out of a place in the quarterfinals after Argentina’s stunning late comeback.
“I do not want to put it nicely and talk about hard luck. We have been cheated unfairly today; we have suffered injustice”, Hassan said in an explosive post-match news conference.

Ibrahim Hassan, Hossam’s twin brother and Egypt’s national team director, has also been suspended for three matches.
The Egyptian Football Association announced the sanctions in a statement on Monday.
The statement read: “The Egyptian Football Association received the decisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee regarding Hossam Hassan, the national team coach, Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, and player Mostafa Zico.”
