June 16, (THEWILL) – On Thursday, world football governing body, FIFA, will reveal the 16 host cities for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
FIFA will organise the 48-team World Cup in the three neighbouring countries for the first time, and host cities in all three countries will be unveiled in a ceremony to be broadcast on FIFA+ TV at 5:00 pm on Thursday.
It is expected that the Super Eagles will put their failure to reach Qatar 2022 World Cup behind them and compete even more favourably to reach the historic World Cup in 2026 in these three countries, with 9 African teams expected to compete.
The World Cup will be held in North America for the first time since 1994. The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be the 23rd edition of the quadrennial international men’s association football tournament, which will be contested by national teams from FIFA member nations, with an increase in the number of competing nations from 32 to 48.
The United States had attempted to host the 2022 World Cup on its own, but was defeated by Qatar.
