FIFA Calls For Suspension Of Ivorian Football Federation Election

BEVERLY HILLS, August 29, (THEWILL) – World governing football body, FIFA, wants the Ivory Coast Football Federation to stop its election, following the rejection of the bid of legendary footballer, Didier Drogba, to lead the association and the unending controversies and discord in the election process.

“We request the suspension of all action in relation to the election process until further notice,” FIFA said in a statement.

The former Chelsea forward’s election team said it has anticipated that the Ivorian federation would disqualify its candidate

“Drogba’s staff isn’t surprised by this decision to reject the bid. But we remain unfazed. We will react to conform to the texts which surround this election,” Mahamadou Sangare, a member of Drogba’s team, told AFP.

Drogba, who has the support of some current players, has five days to appeal FIF’s decision.

THEWILL reports that the former Ivory Coast’s captain is vying for the position of president of the association against former third vice-president, Idriss Diallo and the current vice-president of the national body and president of the League, Sory Diabate.

FIFA had called on FIF early in August to annul the election because of the lack of fairness and chaos in the process.
