June 23, (THEWILL) – Ajax and Tottenham have reached a deal of around £20 million for Spurs striker, Steven Bergwijn paving the way for him to exit the north London club.
Bergwijn only made four English Premier League starts all of last season, therefore, it has long been anticipated that he will leave the Lilywhites this summer. Earlier this month, the forward even made it clear that he wanted out, saying: “I just need to go play. I want to leave Spurs now, that’s for sure.
“Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That’s not my top priority. It would be nice, but what’s important is that I’m going to play. I wasn’t allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn’t have any problems. But for the last few months, I was hardly looked after there. I want to go and play somewhere weekly.”
He is about to get his wish because Ajax and Tottenham have reached an agreement regarding a transfer fee. The initial fee will be £20 million, with add-ons totaling about $5 million.
Tottenham will have more money to add a new forward to their already-effective attack setup this summer. They are interested in adding one of Richarlison, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, or Raphinha to their forward line after Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-min combined for an astounding 66 goal contributions last season alone.
