March 13, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian football community is in mourning following the death of former Super Falcons Coach, Ismaila Mabo.
The football icon passed away on Monday morning, after a long battle with an undisclosed illness. He was aged 80 at the time of his death.
Mabo is a renowned figure in Nigerian football history, having been a former player and captain of the Mighty Jets of Jos. He is also credited with paving the way for many schoolboys, who later became notable football stars in the country.
Mabo’s contributions to the development of football in Nigeria are immeasurable, and he led the Super Falcons to their best-ever outing at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1999.
The funeral of the late coach is expected to take place later on Monday, in Jos, Plateau State. Several acquaintances and personalities in the football community have expressed condolences to Mabo’s family and friends, with many describing his death as a great loss to Nigerian football.
