January 14, (THEWILL) — Kiefer Sutherland, the Emmy Award-winning Canadian-American actor, known for portraying Jack Bauer in 24 and President Tom Kirkman in Designated Survivor, has been arrested in Los Angeles after allegedly assaulting a ride-share driver, (a driver offering transport services through bookings made on a mobile app), police confirmed.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said the incident occurred just after midnight on Monday near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood.

Police allege that Sutherland entered the vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats. Authorities said the driver was not injured.

Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of felony criminal threats, booked into the LAPD jail, and later released after posting a $50,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. The case remains under investigation by the LAPD’s Hollywood Division.

The actor has faced legal issues in the past. In 2007, he served 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating probation. In 2009, he was arrested on an assault charge that was later dropped, and in 2020 he was arrested for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
