The embattled Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has won the Tudun Wada/Doguwa federal constituency seat of Kano State.
Doguwa was declared the winner following Saturday’s supplementary election held in some polling units of the constituency.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Professor Sani Ibrahim, said Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 41,573 votes to beat his closest rival, Yushau Salisu of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who scored 34,831 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate got 2,111 votes.
The electoral Commission had cancelled elections in some polling units of the federal constituency and scheduled re-run elections, adding that the Returning Officer for the constituency announced Doguwa winner under duress.
Doguwa is currently facing charges of culpable homicide, among others.
