Eguavoen Expected To Stick To Winning Formula Against Tunisia On Sunday

January 23, (THEWILL) – The caretaker coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, Augustine Eguavoen, has stated that his starting lineup for the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 match against Tunisia on Sunday evening is capable of battling with the north African powers.

For the last group game against Guinea-Bissau, Eguavoen explained why he made multiple changes to the team with qualification for the knockout stages already guaranteed.

Now, with a quarter-final position on the line this evening, the 56-year-old is anticipated to stick with the same starting lineup that defeated Egypt and Sudan in their first two games.

Despite a handful of fringe players impressing in the triumph over the African Wild Dog, the 1994 AFCON winner did not sound like a coach with a selection dilemma.

Eguavoen revealed during the pre-match press conference on Saturday that “We made a lot of changes in the last game because we wanted to give everybody the opportunity to play and when the time comes for us to substitute we won’t think twice.

“Now we know the level everybody’s at and come tomorrow we’ll come up with maybe the same lineup, maybe a different lineup but whichever lineup we come with will be very, very ready to compete.”

The match kicks off at 8 pm local time.
