Edo 2024: Major Boost As Ordia, Marcus, Itulah, Ahbulimen Step Down Aspiration To Endorse Ighodalo

January 07, (THEWILL) – Ahead of the February 3rd governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, the chances of Barrister Asue Ighodalo received a major boost on Saturday, as two governorship aspirants, Clifford Ordia and Marcus Onobun, joined two other aspirants, Friday Itulah and Kenneth Ahbulimen, to endorse Ighodalo.

This is as the Special Committee of the PDP in Edo Central senatorial district, on Saturday, adjourned its screening of governorship aspirants from the zone.

The decision was reached at the committee’s meeting, held at the Igueben residence of Chief Tom Ikimi.

Among the aspirants present at the meeting were Barrister Anselm Ojiezua, Senator Clifford Ordia, John Yakubu, Ambassador Martins Uhomoibhi, and Barrister Asue Ighodalo.

The Committee had scheduled Saturday, January 6, 2024, to screen all PDP governorship aspirants from Edo Central

A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party, Amb. Tony Okonigene, said Chief Tom Ikimi, the Chairman of the Special Committee, expressed his appreciation to the aspirants for their dedication to the party and the Esan people.

He also read a letter from one of the aspirants, Marcus Onobun, who informed the committee that he had stepped down his aspiration to support Barrister Asue Ighodalo.

Senator Ordia, who emphasised the need for personal sacrifices in the interest of the party, also announced his decision to withdraw from the race and support Barrister Ighodalo.

The endorsement of Barr. Ighodalo by Onobun and Sen. Odia bring to four the number of Edo Central PDP governorship aspirants who have stepped down their aspiration to endorse Ighodalo.

Hon. Itulah and Kenneth Ahbulimen had on Thursday, announced their withdrawals from the race while they pledged support for Ighodalo.

Ighodalo, who thanked Marcus and Sen. Odia for the support, commended the Committee for their personal sacrifices.

Barr. Asue Ighodalo, a banker, lawyer, and former chairman of Sterling Bank and Nigerian Breweries, will officially flag off his campaign on January 12, 2024.
