January 07, (THEWILL) – Nigerian striker, Asisat Oshoala, rounded off the scoring as Spanish football giants Barcelona Femení rang in the new year with an emphatic 9-1 victory over Levante on matchday 13 of the Primera División.
Playing at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on January 6, a public holiday in Catalonia, Barcelona put on a goalscoring clinic much to the delight of the energetic crowd.
The tone was set early on when talented youngster Salma Paralluelo opened the scoring just five minutes in. Veteran striker Mariona Caldentey soon added a second from the penalty spot before Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí made it 3-nil in the 28th minute. The second half saw no letup in Barcelona’s dominance as further goals from Claudia Pina, Patricia Guijarro, and Vicky Losada piled the misery on Levante. The visitors managed a consolation goal through Allegra Poljak amid Barcelona’s goal frenzy.
With the emphatic win, Barcelona Femení maintain their perfect record this season and hold a nine-point lead at the top of the Primera División table as they look to defend their league title.
