Economic Sector Gulps 48.89% of Plateau’s 2022 Budget

January 16, (THEWILL) – From UKANDI ODEY, Jos breakdown of the Plateau State 2022 budget tagged, ‘Budget of Economic Recovery and Consolidation of Inclusive Infrastructural Growth,’ has indicated that the economic sector will gulp N17, 234, 272, 407. 68, representing 47.89 per cent of the total budget.

Presenting a breakdown of the budget in Jos last Friday, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Sylvester Wallangko, said further sectorial allocations show that the administrative sector is second with an allocation of N8, 440, 542 337.82, equivalent to 23.45 percent of the budget, while the social sector and law and justice received 24.41 and 4.24 percent for the same 2022 fiscal period, respectively.

Explaining the whopping allocation to the economic sector, Wallangko said the projects captured for execution in this area spread across education, agriculture, works, health, water resources, energy and sanitation, lands and housing, as well as science and technology. Others include tourism, information and communication, women, youths and sports development, commerce and industry, as well as environment and solid minerals development.

With a zero opening balance, Wallangko added, “The vision of the budget is aimed at consolidating on the achievements of the ‘Rescue Administration’ in order to improve our stewardship towards accelerated socio-political and economic development of the state.”

He urged all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to adhere strictly to the basic principles of budgeting and budget implementation, just as he called on stakeholders to “take responsibility and ownership of all projects that are in their domain in terms of maintenance culture as the primary beneficiaries.”
