BEVERLY HILLS, March 29, (THEWILL) – After successfully executing their qualifier against the Squirrels of the Republic of Benin and just 24 hours away from their final Group L match against the Crocodiles of Lesotho for the 2020 TOTAL African Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Super Eagles will undertake final trainings at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Monday evening.

Their celebratory mood had switched into extra gear on Sunday night as the team and officials stayed up late into the night to attend a celebration in honour of the election of Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) into the prestigious FIFA Executive Council this month.

Pinnick’s success came after a spate of withdrawals from the race by other contestants prior to the election. Gambia’s Lamine Bajo, Nicholas Mwendwa of Kenya, Wallace Karia (Tanzania) and Andrew Kamanga (Zambia) all withdrew leaving only Pinnick and incumbent Walter Nyamilandu in the race, whom the flamboyant Nigerian defeated by a landslide.

The final fine-tuning of tactics and strategies to ensure victory, overseen by the tactician of Nigeria’s senior men’s national football team, Gernot Rohr, is in preparation for the formality that is the Lesotho fixture as qualification places in the group for both Nigeria and Lesotho have already been decided from results of matches played on Saturday. Lesotho drew with Sierra Leone to remain rock bottom, while Nigeria beat Benin to remain top.

For media bodies desirous to cover the session and catch glimpses of the Super Eagles squad, the handlers of the team agreed to make the first fifteen minutes of Monday’s training open to the media before everyone except the squad and crew will be asked to leave so that the session can proceed behind closed doors.

Furthermore, when it is time for the Lesotho national team to acclimate to the Stadium turf, no journalists and or media personnel will be allowed into the stadium due to COVID-19 protocols in place for health and safety reasons.

In a change of format, there will also be no official pre-match press conference, again due to guidelines enforced because of the pandemic.
