March 05, (THEWILL) – At least three persons including a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were killed on Saturday night, by suspected armed bandits, who attacked Maru Town, the headquarters of Maru Local Government of Zamfara State.
The DPO, identified as Kazeem Raheem, was shot dead along with Sergeant Rabiu Bagobiri and a vigilante official, Shehu Chuka, during an exchange of gunfire with the bandits.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, who confirmed the incident, said police authorities in the state are currently in Maru for an on-the-spot assessment.
According to Channels Television, an unspecified number of residents were also abducted in the attack.
“They abducted people, but no exact number so far, they are still searching for people that ran for their lives,” the TV station quoted an anonymous source.
