February 25, (THEWILL) – Manchester City returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 4-1 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
The Cherries put up a good fight but were ultimately outclassed by City’s quality. Goals from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, and a Chris Mepham own goal ensured that Jefferson Lerma’s late strike meant little in the end.
City dominated the game from the outset and took the lead after just 15 minutes when Alvarez tapped the ball into an open net from a yard out. Bournemouth did grow into the game but struggled to cause any real problems for City, except for a poor cross from Jordan Zemura and a weak penalty shout from Dominic Solanke.
City punished Bournemouth’s mistakes with clinical finishing. Haaland added a second for City before Foden made it three with a goal just before halftime. Alvarez added his second goal of the game five minutes into the second half before Lerma scored a consolation goal for Bournemouth in the dying minutes of the game.
City now face Championship side, Bristol City in the FA Cup fifth round before a league clash with Newcastle United, while Bournemouth travel to face English Premier League leaders, Arsenal next Saturday.
