October 24, (THEWILL) – The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare bandits terrorists and enemies of the state.

The chairman of the conference and Speaker, Bauchi House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman, disclosed the body’s decision to newsmen at the end of the body’s third quarter general meeting on Saturday.

He said the call is one of the outcomes of the 5-point communique reached at the end of their deliberations.

Suleiman said they have come to realise that the mode of operations employed by the bandits is not in any way different from that of terrorists and as such should be treated as one.

Other resolutions reached in the course of the deliberations included working out a legislative framework to complement federal government efforts in the fight against insecurity in the country.

Also, the conference resolved to come up with appropriate laws that will address the fundamental issues responsible for the insecurity experienced in the country.

The communique also harped on the need to create employment opportunities for the teeming youths to curb insecurity across the country.

The speakers, while commending the governors who have assented to the Fund Management Bills passed by their respective State Houses of Assembly, called on other state governors who are yet to do so to do so for effective and efficient implementation of financial autonomy across the nation.

The speakers also commended and appreciated the efforts of the governor of Katsina state, Aminu Bello Masari, and the Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, Tasiu Musa Maigari for hosting the third quarter general meeting.

The meeting was themed: “The Menace of Insecurity in the Country and the Role of State Assemblies to Restore Peace and Order.”
