January 04, (THEWILL) – David de Gea has expressed his confidence in securing a new deal with Manchester United and his desire to spend the rest of his career at the club.
The 32-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but United have the option to extend it by one year. Talks have also been held about a longer renewal.
While United recently extended the contracts of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot, and Fred, De Gea’s deal has not yet been extended. However, the Spanish goalkeeper is optimistic that an agreement will be reached.
He said: “I’m very relaxed. I just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it’s going to end in a good way. I hope [to stay for the rest of my career]. I was saying this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.”
United has improved significantly from last season, thanks in part to the team’s strong defensive play under manager Erik ten Hag. They have not conceded at home in the EPL since their victory over Arsenal in September and have opened a five-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur in the race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
