August 18, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats star, Davido, has responded to Wande Coal following their public disagreement over an unreleased collaboration on the singer’s 2021 hit, “Come My Way”.
The dispute began after Davido discussed the song during a recent episode of The Uncut Podcast and explained why his version with Wande Coal was never released.
Davido said Wande approached him for the collaboration and that he recorded a verse for what he understood to be the original song.
However, he said he pulled out after learning that Wande planned to release the solo version first and add his verse later as a remix.
Wande Coal later challenged Davido’s account on X, saying the song already had a release plan and date before Davido recorded his verse.
“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song fuckin’ did well without you on it, bruv!”
The disagreement soon became personal, with both artists trading personal insults on the platform.
Davido then addressed the matter again during an interview with News Central TV, maintaining that he did not believe he said anything wrong when he first discussed the song.
He reiterated that he recorded his verse for the original song and did not want it to be held back for a remix.
“We recorded the song as an original song, and he wanted to drop it as a remix, but I didn’t want that. I didn’t record it as a remix.”
Davido also claimed that Wande Coal had been trying to get his attention for about a year and had asked for his phone number two weeks before the dispute.
“Wande has been looking for my attention for the past year. He even asked for my number two weeks ago, and I told them not to give him.
He is just acting like a baby; he will be fine.”
Despite the tension, Davido acknowledged Wande Coal’s influence on his career and said he was one of the artists he looked up to while growing up.
“Wande was one of the artists I looked up to growing up. I know it’s painful to see someone come and overtake you, but Wande will be fine.”

The disagreement has also put the spotlight back on “Come My Way”, which Wande Coal released in October 2021. The song was produced by Bruno and Screwface and marked Wande’s return with a new single at the time.
The unreleased collaboration originally drew attention from fans after a video snippet of Davido and Wande Coal working together in the studio surfaced online years ago.
The two artists have worked together before, including on Davido’s 2012 song “Throway” and DJ Spinall’s 2016 hit “Olowo”.
Despite the public disagreement, Davido said he does not see the situation as a major issue and believes Wande Coal will be fine.
