SAN FRANCISCO, June 14, (THEWILL) – A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted DAAR Communications, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray power FM, and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) leave to settle their dispute out of court.

Inyang Ekwo, the judge, granted the leave for the out-of-court settlement after Maliki Sylvanus, holding the brief of Mike Ozekhome, counsel to Raymond Dokpesi, founder of the company, made an oral application.

The matter was slated for hearing before Sylvanus informed the court that parties in the proceedings were engaged in talks with the aim of amicably settling the matter out of court.

In view of this, Sylvanus counsel called on the court to avail them with a date for parties to report the settlement to the court.

The defence counsels in the matter did not raise any objection to the application for settlement.

The judge, thereafter, adjourned till June 26 for a report on settlement.

THEWILL recalls that NBC had suspended the operating licences of DAAR Communications over alleged infractions.

However, DAAR communications approached the court seeking an order to restrain the NBC from interfering in its operations, pending the determination of a motion on interlocutory injunctions filed in court.

But due to the intervention of media elders, the NBC and DAAR Communications agreed to work together and settle amicably outside court.
