November 25, (THEWILL) – A Federal High court sitting in Osogbo has nullified the October 15 local government election conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).
Before the election, the chairman of the State Electoral Commission, Segun Oladitan, announced that only one political party signified an intention to contest in the election.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) approached the court to stop OSIEC from conducting the election.
OSIEC had declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all the seats in the 30 LGAs.
The ballot paper used for voting was said to have not carried the logo of any political party and only reflected ‘YES or NO.’
In its ruling on Friday, the court nullified the council poll.
The presiding Judge, Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel, held that the election was held in contravention of Sections 29 and 32 of the Electoral Act, 2022.
