Confusion In APC Over National Chairman Adamu’s Reported Resignation

July 17, (THEWILL) – The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has reportedly resigned from office.

Adamu, the former governor of Nasarawa State, was said to have resigned to save himself from being removed from office, the WesternPost reported.

Calls for Adamu’s resignation have heightened in the last few weeks.

The APC earlier scheduled its Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for July 10 and 11, but was postponed to Tuesday and Wednesday, due to the president’s international engagements.

According to reports, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, was one of the people who advised Adamu to resign.

Reports said he was forced to step down as the party’s chairman after Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, told him that if he didn’t resign, they will remove him at the next NEC meeting.

Those who are calling for Adamu’s resignation accused him of working against the President during the party’s presidential primary, publicly supporting former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, and failing to fully back Tinubu even after securing the party’s ticket.

Adamu was also accused of mismanaging the party’s funds.

THEWILL could not independently confirm Adamu’s resignation as the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, did not respond to calls.

However, a source very close to the APC chairman denied Adamu’s resignation.

“It is not true. But some people, I learnt, have decided to see him today or tomorrow to pressurise him to resign”, the source said.
