August 01, (THEWILL) – Chelsea and promising young defender, Levi Colwill, have come to an agreement on a new long-term contract, extending his stay at Stamford Bridge for six more years.
The 20-year-old, who impressed during his loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion under Roberto De Zerbi last season, had attracted interest from various clubs, including Brighton themselves, who made a club-record offer to secure him permanently. However, Colwill opted to wait for discussions with new Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, before making a decision on his future.
With the belief that he will feature prominently under Pochettino’s guidance, Colwill has now committed his future to Chelsea until the late 2020s. As he stated in early July: “I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to and make a decision. I’ve got to play at the end of the day, to hopefully get there and go to the next [England senior] camp.”
Brighton’s pursuit of Colwill came to an end as Chelsea remained steadfast in their ‘not for sale’ stance, even when Liverpool showed interest in the young English defender. Colwill made it obvious that he wanted to play regularly and make a mark on the international stage, hinting at his aspirations to represent England’s senior team.
Meanwhile, Chelsea is also nearing a deal for Monaco centre back, Axel Disasi, who will reunite with former teammate Badiashile in West London if the transfer, valued at around £38 million, materialises.
