December 02, (THEWILL) – Andres Balanta, a 22-year-old midfielder from Colombia, has passed away after collapsing during training with Atletico Tucuman, his Argentine club.
Balanta, who was on loan from Deportivo Cali to Atletico, was taken to the hospital after passing out during the team’s first training following a brief vacation.
For more than 40 minutes, medical professionals at the hospital where Balanta was taken tried to revive the former Colombia Under-23 international, but it was futile and the player was announced dead soon after.
Atletico Tucuman released the following statement to announce Balanta’s passing: “We regret to inform you about the death of Andres Balanta. The club’s supporters are deeply saddened today. Of course, we support his family, teammates and friends.”
Balanta played at the 2019 Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia while representing Colombia at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels. He had about 100 appearances as a defensive midfielder for Deportivo Cali, before joining Atletico Tucuman, on loan last summer.
