February 01, (THEWILL) – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement from 12 am to 6 pm in 26 States on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
In a statement on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the measure is to ensure a peaceful conduct of the 2024 run-off/bye-elections across the 26 states on Saturday.
The IGP has also banned security aides to VIPs from polling booths and state-owned security outfits from election security management.
“Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has mandated a restriction of vehicular movement from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day in 26 states holding run-off and bye-elections on Saturday, February 3, 2024,” Adejobi said.
Adejobi, however, clarified that essential services like the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited media, and emergency responders are exempted.
