April 06, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the family of Audu Bako, the late Military Governor of the old Kano State, the Government and people of Kano and Jigawa in mourning the demise of Hajiya Ladi Bako.
The 93-year-old widow died on Wednesday, at Prime Specialists Hospital in Kano, after a protracted illness.
Her husband, Retired CP Bako (1924–1980), was a Nigerian police officer and the first Governor of Kano State during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon, following the formation of the state from part of the Northern Region.
Bako was appointed military governor of the old Kano State from May 1967 to July 1975.
The President, in a condolence statement issued on Thursday, by Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Publicity, described the wife of the late governor as one of the most powerful women in the political system during their time.
He said: “The late Hajiya Ladi was a great lady. She defined an era and will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her family and the Kano community.
“’May Allah give courage and perseverance to those she left behind to bear this irreparable loss.”
