February 27, (THEWILL) – West Ham recorded their first victory in nine games across all competitions after a resounding 4-2 English Premier League win over struggling Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday night.
The Hammers, who were stuck in their longest winless streak since 1997, produced an emphatic performance led by a clinical hat-trick from England forward, Jarrod Bowen, to claim the vital three points.
Bowen, who had not scored in the league since December 23, wasted no time in ending his goal drought by striking twice within the opening seven minutes. Neal Maupay pulled one back for the visitors in a frantic opening quarter of an hour, before Bowen completed his treble after the break. An outstanding long-range strike from Emerson made it four for West Ham, with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa netting a late consolation.
The much-needed win lifts David Moyes’ side up to eighth place in the table, while Brentford remain perilously close to the drop zone in 16th after a fifth defeat in six matches. Moyes has endured intense pressure amid fan unrest in recent weeks, with the Hammers crashing out of the FA Cup to lower-league opposition and suffering a humiliating 6-0 thrashing by Arsenal.
With the Scotsman yet to commit to a new deal, the statement performance will come as a relief. Brentford, meanwhile, slipped below Everton after their punishment for breaking financial rules was reduced to a six-point deduction on appeal.
