January 12, (THEWILL) – The Supreme court has affirmed the victory of Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 18 governorship election in Bauchi State.
The apex, in a verdict of a five-member panel, upheld the two separate judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Bauchi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
In the lead judgment delivered on Friday, by Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, the apex court declared Bala Mohammed as validly elected governor of Bauchi State
The appellant, Air Marshal Abubakar, had alleged that the electoral materials used in the March 18th governorship election in Bauchi State were not properly filled in eight local councils of the state. He, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the judgement of the lower court and nullify the election of Mohammed.
Recall that the Bauchi State Governorship Election Tribunal had, on September 5, 2023, upheld the election of Mohammed as Bauchi State Governor. Similarly, the Court of Appeal, Abuja, had in November upheld Mohammed’s victory as duly elected governor.
