April 17, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest the immediate-past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Justice Emeka Nwite gave the order following request by the anti-graft agency for a warrant of arrest on former Governor, Yahaya Bello, ahead of his scheduled court appearance on Thursday.
Earlier, the Kogi State High Court, sitting in Lokoja, had restrained the EFCC from taking any action to arrest, detain, or prosecute the former governor.
In the two-hour judgement delivered at the High Court 4 and presided over by Justice I.A Jamil, in suit no HCL/68/M/2020, the court restrained the EFCC from arresting, detaining and prosecuting the applicant except if it authorised his arrest and prosecution.
The EFCC had dragged Yahaya Bello, his nephew, Ali, one Dauda Sulaiman and Abdulsalam Hudu, before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in an amended charge in March 2024 over an alleged N84bn money laundering.
