April 8, (THEWILL) – A former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Dr. Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, has urged Governor Abba Yusuf to leave the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, alone, saying investigating him would expose Yusuf’s political Godfather, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Monday, Dr. Musa Kwankwaso said the probe also had a hidden agenda.

According to him, investigating Dr. Ganduje’s past administration is a political vendetta and would expose the alleged financial atrocities Governor Yusuf’s political godfather, Rabiu Kwankwaso, committed while serving as the Governor of the state.

“We all know that Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf have an ambition of defecting to the APC, and the APC’s door is wide open for them to join the winning party.

“But they should shelve all these negative moves and the desperation to tarnish the image and reputation of Dr. Ganduje if they wish to decamp to the APC,” the former commissioner said.

He advised Governor Yusuf to expedite action on the distribution of the large quantities of palliatives given to the state by President Bola Tibubu’s administration to the vulnerable people of the state.

“The State Government should also judiciously spend the grants it collected from the Federal Government as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy to address the needs of the people of the state,” he said.

According to Iliyasu Kwankwaso, the recent committee of enquiry set up by Governor Yusuf was the handiwork of his Godfather, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, aimed at tarnishing the good reputation of Dr. Ganduje, adding that “the ignoble move will fail.”

“We are calling on Governor Yusuf to stop dancing to the tune of the music of Dr. Kwankwaso because the teeming masses of the state were well aware of the alleged abuse of office he committed while serving as Governor of Kano State,” he added.

However, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed, dismissed the former commissioner’s statement, saying there is nothing wrong or unconstitutional for an incumbent Governor to seek clearance on any issue from his predecessor.

“A former governor should not be afraid of being investigated if he knows that he does not have skeletons in his cupboard,” Ahmed said.

There have been renewed hostilities between Yusuf and Ganduje after the Governor inaugurated two panels to probe Ganduje’s eight-year administration.

Yusuf’s government had also filed criminal charges against Ganduje, his wife, Hafsat, son, Umar, and five others.
