SAN FRANCISCO, February 18, (THEWILL) – The Borno State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken up its All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart over the burning of the campaign office of the former governor of the state , Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, in Maiduguri.
The campaign office of the former governor who is aspiring to represent Borno Central at the Senate was set ablaze by some youths during the Presidential Campaign visit of the APC candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to Borno State on Monday.
Firing the first shot in the ongoing war of words was Inuwa Bwala, the media officer of the PDP governorship candidate, Alhaji Mohammed Imam, who alleged that the destruction was at the instance of. Governor Kashim Shettima.
However, while dismissing the allegation on Tuesday, the chairman of the APC in the state, Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori,explained that the destruction was caused by thugs who had some scores to settle with their political leader, Modu Sheriff, after being used and dumped.
And yet in another counter-allegation on Wednesday, the executive secretary of Mohammed Imam campaign organisation, Alhaji Shettima Barma, launched another offensive, saying it was wrong for the APC to state that the PDP was responsible for the desruction of Modu Sherrif’s office.
While parading some youths whom he said were attacked by the APC thugs,Barma said 20 young people have been arrested as suspects in connection with the attack.
“Let me present to you evidence that the civilian JTF which we all thought were brought in to help in the security situation of our dear state Borno, but have been turned into political mercenaries for APC and Borno State governor Kashim Shettima, who uses them to maim, threat and intimidate the peace loving people of Borno State,” Barma said.
“We equally present to you some of our supporters who were beaten up by these APC supporters on the orders of the APC led authorities. This and other complains have been reported to the appropriate channels for justice.”
Bama stated further: “We want to assure our citizens that they will continue to provoke us, but such provocation will only gear us towards our resolve to rescuing Borno and its people from misgoverning, threats, violence and intimidation.”
Describing the action of the APC thugs as babaric, he alleged that the APC stands for what the party has been planning for the people of Borno which is violence even against a police officer who was assigned to protect the Goodluck/Sambo campaign office and whose uniform was completely torn from his body.
He also alleged that the APC youths in their hundreds on Tuesday stormed the PDP campaign office at former UTC and beat up their supporters some of whom have been admitted in different hospitals in the state capital.
According to Barma, the APC thugs vandalised the PDP office while they sat back and watched helplessly. “The mob did not just stop at that, they went ahead even to attack military equipment that were being brought into the state for the war against insurgency. In fact, they had attempted to set the military equipment ablaze but for the timely intervention of the GOC 7th division,” he further alleged.
