BEVERLY HILLS, June 12, (THEWILL) – No fewer than 37 persons were killed in fresh attacks by Boko Haram on six villages in Borno State on Wednesday.
A local vigilante member, who disclosed this, said the insurgents started shooting sporadically as they stormed Koshifa, Matangle, Buraltuma, Darmanti, Almeri and Burmari villages, in Damboa Local Government Area of the state, Wednesday night.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, he said the insurgents also burnt down many houses in the villages.
This came as a senior member of the vigilante group in Biu, a neighbouring local government, Ibrahim Suleiman, disclosed that some of the fleeing villagers, mostly women and children, shared their horrible experiences with the group, saying “the insurgents killed their husbands and burnt down their houses leaving them with nothing.”
The women, according to Suleiman, said they were left with no choice than fleeing as they were afraid that the gunmen may return.
According to Suleiman , “at least 37 persons were killed in coordinated attack on the six villages , and they were mostly men and youths and their homes razed down completely.
“The women said many people were still missing but they believed that they will still come to Damboa or Biu town so that they can reunite with their families. I must say Boko Haram has almost wiped out this generation. ”
Confirming the attacks on Thursday, a police officer, who craved anonymity, said… “we are aware of yesterday raids on villages in Damboa council, many of them were killed and some weapons were recovered by the troops.”
