Spiderman was among the Boko Haram fighters who attacked Garshigar community of Mobar Local Government Area in Borno on Wednesday.

Texas Chukwu, Army Director of Public Relations, said the insurgents, who were in nine gun trucks, were repelled by troops of 145 Battalion deployed for Operation Lafiya Dole following superior power of the vigilant troops.

He added that “preliminary battle damage assessment reveals that the overwhelming superior power of the troops devastated the insurgents, inflicting human and equipment casualty on the insurgents which forced them to withdraw in disarray.”

The director said that the gallant troops regrouped after the fierce encounter and dominated the general area of Garshigar and its environs with fighting patrols.

“The good people of Mobar Local Government are urged to remain calm and be assured of troops’ commitment to provide adequate security in the general area,” he added.

Meanwhile, a commander in Mamman Nur, a Boko Haram faction, Ali Garga, has been assassinated for acts of treachery.

According to a source, Garga planned to lead 300 captives into freedom before his plan was exposed.

He was subsequently arrested and killed by other commanders still loyal to the Mamman Nur faction of the terrorist group.

The source said Garga also planned to surrender to the military but was killed on Thursday by other commanders loyal to Mamman Nur’s faction who got wind of the plan.

Garga, a Fulani man from Taraba State, was forced to join Mamman Nur three years ago after his cows were seized by Boko Haram on the fringes of the Lake Chad.

The source added, “The terrorist group trained Garga on how to fight and engage in combat operations.

“He also possessed an extraordinary ability to know the terrain because he was a herdsman. This made him reach the level of a commanding officer at the Mamman Nur faction.

“Garga was not interested in holding captives for ransom like others. What was paramount to him was getting his livestock back and continuing the life of a herdsman and being allowed to reunite with his family.”
