September 01, (THEWILL) – Hector Bellerin will be allowed to leave Arsenal for free with the 27-year-old waiting for the necessary documentation to clear immigration to Spain.
Bellerin has consented to relocate to Barcelona, accepting a wage cut, in order to do so while also forfeiting any money that Arsenal owed him. He spent last season on loan in La Liga with Real Betis, where he made 32 appearances as they advanced to the Europa League.
Due to Dani Alves’ departure from the team in the summer, Barcelona are in need of a right-back especially with USMNT player, Sergino Dest, in Milan seeking a transfer away from the Camp Nou before the transfer deadline.
Although none of them are natural right-backs, Barcelona head coach, Xavi has played Sergi Roberto, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde in that position thus far this season highlighting the need for Bellerin, who featured for Arsenal during preseason, but failed to make a matchday squad in five games under Mikel Arteta.
Takehiro Tomiyasu, Cedric Soares and Ben White have been Arteta’s choices in that position meaning that Bellerin is free to go after 239 appearances for the north London club since moving from Barcelona to Arsenal in 2011. He won the FA Cup three times (in 2015, 2017 and 2020) while playing for Arsenal.
