August 06, (THEWILL) — Barcelona have taken a major step toward signing Manchester City midfielder Rodri after reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Spain international, moving the blockbuster transfer closer to completion.
According to reports in Spain, the Catalan club have secured Rodri’s approval over salary and contract conditions, allowing them to shift their full attention to negotiations with Manchester City.
Barcelona are expected to table an opening offer worth around €50 million, although City are believed to value the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder between €60 million and €70 million. Despite the expected gap in valuation, Barcelona remain optimistic that an agreement can be reached in the coming days.
Further reports suggest the Premier League champions’ rivals Real Madrid have also been monitoring Rodri’s situation. However, the midfielder is understood to have informed the Spanish giants that his priority is a move to Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s confidence has reportedly been strengthened by Rodri’s admiration for the club’s football philosophy under Hansi Flick, as well as conversations with several of his Spain teammates who already play for the Catalan side.
